Researching Indie Pop Videos

Before we began with today's task of researching music videos of our song's genre, we had to decide which song we wanted to create a music campaign for. We asked Phil (our teacher) to listen to both songs and give us more feedback. For 'Peach' he described it as jolly, offbeat, lively young and quirky. 'Take it or leave it' was far more 'rocky', with a faster tempo, energetic and young sound. While both have. young sound, the first song is probably easier to cast within out school. Ultimately, if we researched 'Peach' and didn't like the conventions of the music videos we would be able to research 'Take it or leave it' at this point of the project. Personally, I enjoy the 'quirky' elements of 'Peach' and think that it gives us creative freedom as 'Take it or leave it' would require a more traditional video for the genre.

Once we had the song approved by Phil, Matt and the requirements for an 'unknown' song/ artist, we began researching music videos in the same genre. Each group member has to find 2 artists first videos and screenshot up to 10 moments in the video, then we would end up with 8 videos and next lesson we will be able to annotate them. I began looking at videos of other unknown artist but the music was more indie than indie-pop. Alternatively, I looked at the artists in my library and then found their first music videos. I chose Rex Orange County's 'Sunflower' and Thomas Headon's 'Focus' as they both have male voices and are in the indie-pop genre. We will analyze these as a group when we next meet together.

Rex Orange County - Sunflower

Thomas Headon - Focus
