Character Creation & Unsigned Music

Our discussion today revolved around the music industry and the myriad of talent that is unsigned due to the changing music industry. More often than not, labels use statistics and analytics to see the type of artist that is soon to become popular based on current taste and sign someone with potential to fit the newest mold of desired artist rather than musical talent. 

My task was to create a character sheet and create an upcoming artist. Additionally, we were to look on websites such as 'RicherUnsigned' and 'BandCamp' to listen to unsigned music of various genres. I decided to merge these tasks and create a character based upon a song I had found on 'BandCamp'. After looking through different genres such as indie rock, hip/hop and rap as well as pop, I went to one of my favorite genres, alternative. Here I looked at the 'newest arrivals' in all variations of alternative and I quickly found the song 'Maybe' by 'livingroom'.

Immediately I liked the piano and guitar and then as the vocals were introduced I began to imagine a person behind the voice. Taking this, I created my character using our character sheet and created the character 'Aaron Wu' an Asian American singer/songwriter in the alternative genre.
